I tried to build a transfertable. Here is the result:

Thanks to Carlo and all the openrails development team to make it possible.

Hi Bernard - yes...

Has one of these has ever been modeled?

And, what did they use in the early traversers? yard goats?

There is a track mobile for download at www.trainsim.com. I think www.tigertrains.com has a payware model that is pretty nice.

When I envisioned being able to move a wagon I was thinking of the track mobile Or Republic Locomotive's little switchers or the little Whitcomb, Plymouth, Davenport, etc switchers.

Amtrak had such a little critter at one time for use at the Beach Grove shops.

The problem right now is the need for a new longer turntable and transfer table to handle the length of both a car and a very small switcher.

MSTS Trackmobile. The Trackmobile is used for shunting (switching) within industrial yards. By Geoff Forrest.

I would also recommend the GE 25 tonner by Sean Lim also at TS.com

How do you move wagons on and off the transfer table without a powered unit. The same would apply to turntable. You can put the unpowered unit on the table using a locomotive, but once the table has moved, no locomotive to subsequently move the car onto another track.

A car puller. Basically a winch. Needs quite a bit of torque to get things started but after that everything rolls right along.

These can be found at industrial spurs where there is a single spot to dump a hopper with 30 loads on one side and an empty track on the other that's long enough for all those cars. Much less expensive than owning your own locomotive.

We had these ones in Italy; I don't know if they were used in the trasfertables. but for sure they were short, and therefore they were called "sole" (the fish) :)

And if instead of moving horizontally the locomotive is moving vertically? Lifting a locomotive using the transfertable feature.

Hmmm. Maybe this could make something like a rotary car dumper!
