I like this contributed utility A LOT.

A minor request: An on/off selection for track to be all one color instead of green for curves, black for tangents. Reasoning is when taking a screenshot to make any sort of map it makes more sense for the track to be all the same color.

A bigger request: Seeing as you already have the means to read and display track and defined paths, how about adding a new window to create a gradient chart for a specified path? You'd need to take into account of tracks being flipped "lying" about their pitch but other than that it should be straightforward. You could probably work in something to indicate left or right curves... a colored line for instance.

Especially Dave´s second suggestion would be great - it would simplify creating activities so much, as one would right away know the actual gradients in the route, thus could more easily determine the HP necessary to take a given tonnage over the given path. :cheers3:

Got my vote!

Cheers, Markus

I was playing with the path editor the other day and notices that you can add the horn blow option in the path. The only disadvantage was that it required multiple clicks. One option would be to make it a direct right click option and/or an option to add the horn blow x feet from each crossing in the path.

Hi Folks,

"I like this contributed utility A LOT."

Concur - I keep thinking this would be the prime spot to start the full blown activity editor from...
:cheers3:

Scott

I also am starting to use it, a little behind here. I wish you could change the default background color from PaleGreen to a users personal choice and have the app remember the default. To my eyes, the default is a poor choice.
Admittedly a personal tic, and not as significant as the other proposals put forth.
If some knows how to change the default....???

EDIT: never mind, I figured it out. Is there any documentation for this contributed app? I still am having trouble with using it. Will start another thread, apologies to Dave.

Look on the OR site www.openrails.org under the button "Learn", and look for "OR_Trackviewer" in the list at the right hand side.
Cheers,

Ahhhh....the Learn button...who'd figure that would be the place, obviously not I. :) Thanks for taking the time.

In TrackViewer itself, I think in the "About TrackViewer" dialog, there is a piece of text saying "Documentation is available". That piece of info alone doe not help the first-time (and any other inexperienced) user a lot, however, so I would like to suggest changing said string to "Documentation is available here: http://openrails.org...-and-tutorials/ (Right column → OR_Trackviewer)". If that isn´t allowed due to whatever reason, I´d suggest at least pointing to the website, for example by saying "Documentation is available on the website".

Cheers, Markus

Perhaps this 3rd idea is implemented and I just don't know about it but it would be very, very nice if, while in edit path mode, you could "push around" previously defined locations such as wait point and/or turn around. There are times when you think you put it in the right place but only when you run the path do you learn it should be moved 40m.

Being able to push it around avoids throwing out a lot of the path definition.

And with the capability of adjusting wait points and the like Trackviewer is (would be) on the 'path' (so to speak) towards creation of a Route Editor.

best,
vince
