Hello Folks,

Welcome to Elvas Tower, we hope you will enjoy your visits here, now and in the future.

Please acquaint yourselves with the rules and the history of the site. The rules are not too restricting, just common sense and we ask that you treat others with the same respect you would expect to receive.

The site is moderated with a light touch, but it is moderated and once you're out, you're out.

Elvas Tower was founded when MSTS1 was King o' the Sims. At present it still is, as far as ET is concerned, but you will notice we do have a small, but growing interest in Railworks, a fairly recent addition to the train simming genre. Who knows what the future may yield.....read about the new ORTS, or Open Rail Train Simulator project; an open source simulator with great potential.

We are a friendly community, so if you have any questions about MSTS or RW, we will do our best to help out. Most of the simmers here are also rail fans; whether that is railway or railroad rather depends where you're from and that interest is also catered for. There is a great fount of knowledge to be found amongst the members of ET, don't be afraid to ask questions.

Cheers n regards
Bazza

Addendum: Aug 7th 2014:
I forgot to mention, there are other train simulators, such as the later versions of Railworks (RW), now renamed Train Simulator 20xx (xx being the year) currently TS2014. There is also Trainz and its later iterations, too many to mention ;-)
B.

Thanks for the welcome! Greetings from the American Southwest.

Welcome aboard! I have to thank you for posting this, as you pushed the thread about ET closing down and now ET looks like it was never at risk of closing in the first place.

Greetings from Ohio, USA! Happy to be here. Looking forward to learning a little & having some fun. Had MSTS since it came out, and became increasingly frustrated with its performance on newer machines. Hoping to get some better performance from Open Rails.

Hi'ya Sparky, welcome to ET. As a veteran user of MSTS you no doubt have the usual battle scars to prove it. Curious about your nick... does it come from that iconic record of the 1950s, "Sparky and the Talking Train"?

Cheers & Good Wishes
Bazza.

Sorry to disappoint- it actually comes from the sidekick in Speed Racer, and a lifelong passion for things electrical, electronic, etc.
I'm hoping to learn enough about Open Rails to get the kind of performance i wished I could have had from MSTS. Just set up a new PC- well, new to me anyway, so i should have sufficient hardware. Now, if i can just work out the "knowledge & understanding" part. I've always had a passion for trains - how could one not? My grandfather's postwar Lionel consumes all physical available space at the moment, so any expansions need to be "virtual", simulator ones.

I definitely understand the frustrations of MSTS and newer computers. About 5 or 6 years ago my wife brought home her old computer from work. It sat here untouched. I had decided that I had had just about enough of MSTS on Windows Vista so two years ago I fired the old one up. Wiped the hard drive clean. (C:) drive 80GB and installed a (E:) with 150GB. Added 2GB of memory along with a 2GB video card. Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. This brought MSTS (to me) back to life.
