It had been awhile since I was able to get from Jersey down to Maryland and the Piedmont Northern Railway. When I had a few days off I piled the wife in the car and we were off to visit her brother who lives in Union Bridge. Bright and early the next morning I headed over to the long siding that ran up to the Lehigh Cement plant and quarry and was able to catch the morning stone job.

She had quite a few cars and after joining the westbound main she headed the short distance into Union Bridge.

After threading it's way through the yard it continued on west towards the Catoctin Mountains and an interchange with the Chessie System in Highfield, MD.

Rick,

It is the same one that Rod takes all the great shots of your's and Gaetan's fine model on, only my own altered version. Mine isn't anywhere as extensively alters as Rod's is, just foliage and the like and track textures I like.

Thanks. It has that 'generic' look like Garber's routes that make it attractive for multiple railroads.

Hey guys, I understand that mechanical things have been called "SHE" for eons. I don't understand the logic other than habit. For instance my truck, a GMC 454 CI v8, one ton dually that is a joy to drive, no way I'm going call it "SHE". HE knows how much fun I have driving HIM around. There is no lady around my world with as much muscle as HIM, certainly not a lady. So I don't care what gender you call your stuff, my mechanical stuff are guys that I hang around in the garage with. "The boys" When things get tense inside, I go to the garage and look at all the boys and one usually begs for attention, I fix him up with new and rebuilt parts. The Wife calls and she commands attention.

Just a guess, George, but how about, troublesome, finicky, unpredictable, and down right hard to get along with sometimes but usually, attractive, shapely, and or just plain good looking.
(Strictly from a guys point of view, of course.)

Am I close to why they call machinery 'she'?
