...a person or a thing that is chronologically out of place ; especially : one from a former age that is incongruous in the present (Webster)

Such is the case with the following pictures.

The place: Just north of Keddie, California on the "Inside Gateway", northern extension of Western Pacific to meet the Great Northern at Klamath Falls, Oregon.

The time: Approximately late 1960's.

The equipment: Jon Davis's payware St.Louis & North Arkansas 4-6-0 #5 pulling 8 passenger cars and 1 express, with Frisco 2-8-0 #724 helping on the rear.

The reason? No reason other than wanting to watch and listen to JD's Turn-of-the-Century steam working hard up the mountain grades ;-)

Motorists slow to pace the hard-working old tea kettles, staring in disbelief at what can only be museum pieces...

This shot was accidental in that the next 4-key stroke placed the camera in this precipitous position. Too good to pass up...

Thanks for your indulgence. :burp:

The Western Pacific is one of two payware routes I have. And worth every penny I paid for it. It comes with some really nice equipment also. Scenery is superb.
