Nice stuff there Rod.

I can tell that many of the .ace files used on the weeds have a black background (the background of an alpha image always bleeds into the display of the object as mip levels increase). I think you would find it an interesting and perhaps worthwhile experiment to pull that weed art into your paint program, add another layer in there, and fill that new layer using colors from the plants. Use the black layer to create the mask but export the plant colored layer as the background. Once the .ace is created and moved into the route you will see a remarkably different looking weed... especially at a distance where the mips are kicking in. And what's really nice about this sort of experiment is that if you like the alternative(s) it's not a big deal to uncompress the .s file and rename the .s file and the .ace found in it giving you multiple weed files to use... some with the original black background and others with different plant colors. The same technique can be used to quickly create seasonal effects... using a brighter, lighter background for spring, medium for summer, and darker for fall.

To a lesser degree, it works on tree textures too... where there are the occasional gaps and/or residual transparent pixels along edges.

I converted all of my vegetation .ace files to this mode some time ago and am quite pleased with the results.

p.s. I really like that Maple tree in picture #1. Very nice art.

Thanks Dave - but they are just my screenshots - nothing done to the route (as yet....).

I am interested in what you are suggesting though, as I am starting to think about adding some different weeds to another route.

What is the route, Rod? (or did I miss it in a previous post) ^_^

Frankly, I'm surprised you have any time for screenshots, what with the current deluge of new models from Gaetan and that other guy.... B)

(SD9 East should be coming your way soon, BTW  )
