Hi Colleagues,

I think usually there is lower focus on the skydome issue as kind of effect it has for the gameplay. For daylight I use this 10K x 10K skydome, it is fantastic how it improves the environment.

But unfortunately I could not find a similar high resolution sky for the night. I have only the original one and it is very funny with the big white points what imitate the stars. It is very unsightly and I always hide it with clouding and hazing (Ctrl+ xyz buttons) to have it tolerable. But it would be better to have a nice high res. night sky, is it maybe planned to create one?

You're likely looking in the wrong place. The stars are found in the starmap and stardome files in the Content subfolder of OpenRails. There are two starmap files: Starmap_N for the Northern Hemisphere and Starmap_S for the Southern Hemisphere. There are higher resolution files that can be found over at Trainsim.com, from 2017. I use those, and copy them over to whatever version of OpenRails that I'm running. I switch out Skydomes and the Clouds01 file quite a bit, depending on the effect that I want to achieve in an activity.

You can download the file from trainsim.com .

You will need to register to be able to download, and unless you pay dues to become a first class member the download speed is slow, but you can get the file.

Just search for starmap in the file library.
