I have been a MSTS fan since the early 2000's and recently came across my msts discs (and Addons from the now defunct UKTS),
What is the best way to run the software on windows 11 (Not via Open Rails)

Just MSTS

Thank you

Welcome to ET.

Some dll and other system files are dropped, so they should be added manually and registered for win to use them. In brief.

May we know, why ORTS is not a variant to run content?

Hi Kristy,

There is a mass difference in performance between MSTS and Open Rails. Back when Open Rail was fist starting out I was building the Conn River Route in MSTS. In most places I was only getting frame rates of 15 fps, when I tested the same location in OR I was getting 30+. The biggest thing I noticed was while running in MSTS you could watch the scenery spawn ahead of you. OR handles scenery differently and the scenery was spawned well before you ever got to it.

Anything that was built for MSTS will run in OR but not necessarily vise versa.

Might be well worth having a look at OR.

Paul :-)

Yes, Paul.
Furthermore, scenery loading is intellectual (at least in NYMG branch). Only needed objects are loaded, not everything around. So it's even more efficient with present hardware.
