G'day, all.

After a long hiatus (playing in other sims and learning new skills), I have returned to my first love MSTS/OR.

I am working on some new repaint projects and I have a quick question...

Is there a tool to help me identify from where on a texture map certain parts of a model are being referenced?

I have learned it is best to create a blank repaint model with parts identified (see my example) but I would rather use a tool to speed my efforts, rather than using blunt force and placing garrish color blocks on the texture map and see where it appears on the model -- though this works (but wasteful in terms of time).

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Very nice to see you back Railroad Librarian. Very nice to see your post.

I do not know of such a search and ID program, the use of texture sheets and how the authors select from is a complex and very personal matter, some are very methodical but overall I kind of doubt if anyone has managed to create such, tho AI may be able to someday.

But lets see what others say but i just wanted to say hi and welcome back

G'day.

Thank you, Chris.

I'm happy to be back. I had been enjoying repainting in RW but my PC crashed and all I'm left with at present is my old teaching laptop. AS I'm retired, I'm not sure if a new PC is in my future yet or not. But at least I can enjoy MSTS/OR and still be creative and contribute to the hobby.

Meanwhile, I was afraid that might prove to be the case.

Guess I'll keep plugging along as I've been doing.

Today's WIP progress on a couple of colorful Airslide hoppers (the model is by George Mathews).

Hello.
Glad to know, You are enjoyed.
Like, how cars appear.
Is airslide the way of unloading?

Regarding airslide operations...

The name lends itself to the “action” created by an air-permeable fabric lining in the bottom of the compartment. Unloading the car involves pumping air under the lining fluidizing the commodity which in turn is drawn out of the compartment by pneumatic or other means. This type of car was primarily used for sugar, flour, and starch (and sometime certain types of plastics).

Here's a quick but informative site with the basics:

One does not see these cars on the rails much any longer. I live on the busy Norfolk Southern Chicago Line and usually only see them being used as weighted 'buffer cars' for long tank car trains.

Hello.
Thanks.
I guess, such specific goods, as sugar and salt, are tend to become solid, absorbing water from humid air.
This means, it's critical to have as few openings of compartment, as possible. So special means to unload are needed.
Here, I see only one port below.

More progress today. I think I'm improving, both in artistic terms as well as getting my model maps better sorted and more quickly. :jumpy:

Still more to go but these are definately coming along nicely, and will allow me to complete a variety of others.

In case anyone viewing this hasn't noticed, I love finding unique and colorful schemes. I love the challenge in bringing such to life in the game.

Cheers

Are these the cars in question?

Did the blank textures not help?

Oh, I realize now this is a different model.
