Now that TSRE's been around for a while I'm still lost at what some of the items in Settings.txt actually do.
Everybody has had different experiences with TSRE. I imagine most of us are good with some things and suck at others.
So I'll start.
What does consoleOutput = true do?

It's not obvious to me that there is a setting to specify how many near tiles to show (OR allows 10,000m) or distant mountains. Have I missed something?

I have this enabled in my settings, tileLod = 4

Ok. And distant mountains?

I've like to edit some terrain heights to close the gap between near and far terrain.

Terrain editing can be toggled between near/far by using the top menu in the app: Settings->Terrain Editing-> and then select detailed or distant.

Be VERY careful with that TileLOD setting.... That's how many tiles in each direction get loaded.

1 loads 1 tile.

2 will load 9 tiles. 3 will load 25 tiles, 4 will load 49 tiles, 5 will try to load 81 tiles.....

If you've got the memory, great. I've had the app crash at LOD4 when there's highly detailed terrain or highly populated world files.
