Not asking for any kind of commitment from anyone, I just would like to know if there is any realistic future after SharpDX?

I'll ask James what he thinks at the ORMT session on Saturday.

I read that Monogame, being cross-platform, only uses SharpDX as a wrapper for when it is working with DirectX.

I see that Monogame has become the Monogame Foundation, publishes a roadmap and has regular "Open Hours" sessions to meet the developers. The roadmap identifies support for DirectX 12.

From the activity on their website, the Monogame project seems to be in better health than a couple of years ago. Their roadmap suggests that MG v3.8, which Open Rails currently uses, and the next release, MG v3.9, both use the XNA 4.0 API and also that v3.9 will be given long-term support (LTS).

So OR can stick with our current code for XNA 4.0 API for many years to come, if that's what we want to do.
