I've noticed recently that when I resume after a save, the volume in the Head Out Forward view (Home key) is much lower. This doesn't happen in the latest unstable version (-0252) only in ORNYMG. Neither does it happen in any other view, only the Head Out Forward position. This occurs in any route, loco, etc. Anyone else noticed this or is it just me?

Nick,
I just started the legacy "Short Passenger Run" activity of the Settle and Carlisle line, switched to the Head Out Forward view and saved. Then I resumed and heard the locomotive "chuffing" with unchanged volume. I checked this also with the Sound Debug Window.
What sound has lower volume? An engine sound or a track sound?

Hi Carlo and thanks for responding. Well this is getting weird - I've just tried the route and activity you mentioned and the sound reduction in this scenario is now when looking BACKWARDS! (end key). It's the chuff and whistle that's a lot quieter. (I normally run diesel locos on N American routes). Nobody else has picked up on this which makes me think it's maybe something peculiar to my setup.

Have you checked the distance settings in the sms file for the specific wav files that are varying in volume?

Well the thing is Gerry that the volume is fine in the head out backwards view (except in the Flying Scotsman cab as detailed above) and in all other views. It's only in the head out forward that the volume drops by around 50%. I'm sure it used to be fine up until fairly recently and it's still ok using the latest unstable version. I've attached the global soundcfg file which I amended a while back. Maybe I did something wrong there?

Okay going to betray my total ignorance here....OR has a global soundcfg file? I thought that was only used in MSTS?

Well I think I probably meant MSTS. ( I was just testing you Gerry...) But it must influence OR because I'm sure Carlo published some revised values for it a few years ago.

soundcfg.dat isn't used by OR. I published quite many years ago a revised version, that's true, but OR didn't exist at that time. That revised version was intended for MSTS.
Sorry Nick, I tested again the Settle & Carlisle activity using the head out backwards view, but I hear whistle and chuff at the same volume after save and after resume.

Thanks Carlo. Yes I was already reaching the conclusion that it's something wrong on my particular setup. Next time I'm feeling bored I'll see if I can troubleshoot it. :)

further to my head out forward sound volume problem I've noticed that any external sounds on a route eg: dogs barking, birdsong etc isn't affected by the loss of volume. All remaining track and rolling stock sounds (including Carlo's demo auto sound) are reduced by 50% or more. Does that help anyone in pinpointing what the problem might be? All is ok on unstable/testing versions, its only ORNYMG that shows this.
