Hello,

Does anyone know of a shape file manager that can be used with Windows 11? The original version of the shape file manager for MSTS/Open Rails at Train-Sim.com cannot be used to compress/decompress shape files in Win 11. Just gives an error message when I try the compress/decompress feature.

Hello.
Just a month or two ago, this question was discussed here.
So, You can try to search forums, or maybe I'll have some time to help Ypu with that, but later.
I badly remember, some solution have been found.

Do you have it pointing to a valid FFEDIT folder with ffeditc_unicode.exe from the original MSTS install? If not it won't work.
I have it working on new install of Win 11.

Randy

Edit, I didn't install MSTS I just copied the FFEDIT folder from my old computer and put it in the SFM25 folder and pointed to that.

SFM25 does so much more that just compress/uncompress.

Windows 11 will not run .HTA files
The exe files needs re-writing for WIN11 or is there a work around?

I believe the work around is to find a copy of mshta.exe and use that in Win11. One of the thread here at Elvas had posts about doing this.

I kept reading conflicting posts of what did and didn't work on Windows 11.
I started off with an HP laptop new enough to have TPS2. I5 7200U, Windows 11 64 Pro, M2 SSD. Nothing special.
Everything I installed worked out of the box.
I copied the contents the ffedit folder to the SFM25 folder and pointed it there in the settings.
RouteRiter, Bam, first try.
Aceit dds, Etc, on down the line.
I read the readmes and the install instructions and followed them. Everything just worked.
So there is no reason to fear 11. It's coming, eventually, just like 10 did.

Randy

Edit: This was a fresh Windows install on a new SSD.

Randy, was this an upgrade in place from Windows 10 to Windows 11 or was it a clean install of 11?

Sorry didn't see the last line. Have you tried the installing of MSTS yet?

I really don't have a use for MSTS any more, so no.
The laptop has the ole Intel graphics anyway so it would have been a moot point.
I just wanted to know what of the tools I use regularly would work. And they do.

The problems people are having with Windows 11 is that there are updated or missing dlls compared to Windows 10. As you saw on the post on Windows 11 Compatibility DirectX has a problem. 3D Crafter 10 which was written for Windows 10 has problems with Windows 11. There are other utilities for Windows 10 that are not for MSTS that are having problems with Windows 11. I would say most things that work on Windows 10 will work on Windows 11, but not all. Let's just say that when something is written for Windows 10, and you try it on Windows 11 you need cross your fingers and hope.

Most of the utilities I use for Train Simming were written for Windows 98 or XP at the latest.
I haven't found anything I use that won't work on 11.
Doesn't mean I wont but I've covered all of the biggies.
Sketchup yes
Paintdotnet yes
TSRE yes
SFM25 yes
RouteRiter yes
AceIt yes
TGATool2A yes
Archibald yes
Zipper yes
Mapper yes
TSRE shape converter yes
Original shape converter yes
GoldWave yes
MSTS and associated tools Don't know/don't care, FFEDIT does work for SFM25 but I copy the contents of the FFEDIT folder to the SFM25 folder and use it from there.
If there are any others I'm unaware of I can test them to make sure but these are the ones I use.

Randy

You'll find it in the utils folder of an MSTS install.
