I've been running the Unstable branch of OpenRails.
Today I noticed there was an update, so I clicked the button, I saw the progress bar move from one side of the screen to the other.
When the progress bar was finished, I got a fatal exception saying that OpenRails was still running.

No problem, I thought, I'll just exit and rerun Openrails and try the update again.

Unfortunately Openrails.exe is now missing from my openrails folder.

I assume the updater downloaded the update, staged it somewhere and was about to swap files - does anyone know what files I should copy and from where?
I see a folder called "UpdateStage" and another called "UpdateDirty"

And of course I can always just reinstall 1.5.1 and change to the Unstable branch, but I figured this might be a good opportunity to see how things work under the hood.

Thanks!

- Jack

If worst comes to worst, I'd recommend downloading a compiled version of unstable directly from James Ross' website. Going that route removes any unfair play caused by the updater, which is why I always use that. Unfortunately, the fact that I don't use and don't trust the updater means I have no idea if there's a cleaner solution to this issue, sorry.

Yeah, that happens. When it does, I change back to the testing version and re-download, and wait a day for the unstable to get worked out.

Downloading from James's site is another option, but it's usually not that pressing for me to be in the unstable.

The nice thing about downloading and installing them manually (via un-zipping) is you can overwrite an existing installation or create a new one simply by un-zipping to a new folder.

Yup, I've been doing it that way since the first time I downloaded and installed OR. Got different installations for various branches of the code.

Note, updater burns-out everything within "program" folder, where ORTS is.
So I've lost all my translation work, being new to ORTS.

I 'resolved' it by re-installing openrails from the official 1.5.1 installer.

Wasn't a big issue for me - content is in different folders and OR seemed aware of the content folders I had after installation.

Hi,
It dousn't matter haow many separate Open Rails versions you have, they all use the same Contents List from the Registry.

Cheers,
Ged

https://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/hi.gif Hi Ged ... That's accurate --- with an exception --- if the user has setup an Open Rails ini file.

I have a file for each "branch" of OR I'm using. The Content List*** & other settings are in the ini file and can be different for each version.

It's Jacks definition of "content folders" I am wondering about....does it refer to the actual Content folder within each OR installation or the Content List that points to the actual routes/profiles of OR. Content folder has the png, fx and other files OR uses.

*** referring to open rails profiles found in Options/Content Tab
