I haven't yet because I can't find it, but I don't see what other parameters for compound working I'm missing. I used the guide on your website. I've set up a loco with two HP and two LP cylinders the same way and that works just fine.
The compound locomotive can be found
here.

If I have one HP cylinder and two LP cylinders, it does not work, but as long as there are two HP cylinders the loco will move. Does OR not count a single HP cylinder in conjunction with one or two LP cylinders as a working loco?
Cross compound means there's one HP cylinder on one side and one LP cylinder on the other. Effectively, it is a single cylinder machine unless using the simpling valve.
As suggested there were a number of different compounding arrangements trialed at various time. When building the functionality, the most "popular" variant was used as a model.
This variant was 2 x HP, and 2 x LP cylinders. Configuring other variants was on the basis that the existing code may not work for them.
