A section of the mainline at Incline. A coal drag, headed by Hercules and Samson holds in a siding to the right.. Though the eastbound local has only one car it's still "superior" under operating rules.
A similar scenario is playing out on the left side. A train of empty hoppers behind Defiant waits on the passenger train coming west.
Helper (pusher in All East jargon) engines are stationed at Incline. The pushers assist westbound trains to climb the grade through Kittaning Curve to Apex. They are turned at Apex and return here, to wait for the next assignment.
