Hello.
I'd say, ScottB's ShapeViewer DDS extension, available on ET:
http://www.elvastowe...ape-viewer-dds/
At least, it will handle DDS textures.

Oh, yes: TSRE5 has it's built-in shape-viewer plugin (though, it crashes with some models and mess-up some textures).

Weter... besides the dds shapes, shapeviewer has other problems too.
For example, I have extensively modified my *.eng and *.wag viles to make use of *.inc files. The result? my consists appear with the vehicles all on top of each other... shapeviwer has not the ability of reading the vehicles dimensions from a inc file...

Hello.
Naturally.
I didn't massively use Sview for seeing consists, but showing points of lights and exhausts is extremely useful (*.eng-file should be opened for that, not *.s)

some of *.dll's/drivers fallen due to windows auto-update?

Hello.
Module-file with *.ocx or *.dll extension (can't remember now) have become de-registered, or wiped by updater.
It demands to register it again (or reinstall, if it lost) for new windows to start use it for producing of graphic.
