Please explain this to me. If I run dxdiag.exe to see what version of DirectX my windows 7 has, it tells me that I have DirectX 11. Are those DirectX 10 features needed for gITF not present in DirectX 11?

It looks like a few things have gotten mixed up in this thread, so I'll try and clarify the whole situation:

  • glTF looks like it is going to require Direct3D Feature Level 10_0 (up from 9_1)
  • Direct3D Feature Level 10_0 requires DirectX 10 or higher to be installed and and a Feature Level 10_0 or higher graphics card (these are not the same)
  • DirectX 10 requires Windows Vista or higher

Since we don't support Windows Vista, anyone with Windows 7 or higher should be able to use the glTF version - as long as they have a suitable graphics card.

To check your graphics card supports Direct3D Feature Level 10_0, there are two options:

  • Run "dxdiag", go to tab "Display", and look at "Drivers > Feature Levels" (right side)
  • Run Open Rails Unstable Version, and look at the log file for "Direct3D" (near the top)

Both of these should report the same thing, so please let me know if yours do not match!

My "dxdiag" and log file both show the following:

Quote

12_1,12_0,11_1,11_0,10_1,10_0,9_3,9_2,9_1

Because "10_0" is in the list, it will support the glTF version.

This is what I get in OpenRailsLog.txt

Quote

Direct3D = 11_0,10_1,10_0,9_3,9_2,9_1

Thanks James Ross for his explanation.
