I like the Autopilot. Not for testing a route, but just for looking around as if I'm a passenger. I'm kind of lazy.

However I find the Autopilot not that realistic, reacting very fast and very often. Has anyone thought of adding some seconds between different Autopilot actions? Or some random time between 1 and 5 seconds? Or reaction time depending on the speed difference? Or ...

Hello.
I like to lean back and twist with head too.
I understand Your sympathy well.

I'm afraid, then ORTS needs two kind of autopilots: for player's usage and for AI trains controlling.

What confuses You? Too fast handles movement in cab?

Yes, a human engine driver could not move the handles so fast. Sometimes I also hear and see releasing and pulling the brakes at a really fast pace. I was just wondering if someone else had noticed this and bothered.

And yes, these two different behavior's should be handled by an extra setting.

At least, Manual honestly warns us about said "effect"

The jerky movements of the levers in autopilot mode are the result of the way that OR pilots the train.

Not sure that a reaction time could be added to autopilot. In some ways it would be nice for learning purposes as well. Maybe an easy fix would have way to turn off the animation in the cab.

We have an AI fireman; it would be nice if we had an AI engineer/driver that works like the AI fireman. You could turn off one or the other or have both on/off. I find trying to do manual firing while being everything else a little too much.

Cruise control does part of said work.

Hello.

If I'm using autopilot, I'm the least interested in the movement of the arms in the cab. I'm paying attention to why I turned the function on. Observing the landscape, or the operation of the signals, or checking track sounds. I actually use a silent locomotive for this.

Sincerely, Laci 1959

Hello.
For exploring Alfold routes, (which are well-exceed 250 km) for getting first impression - autopilot is reasonable measure, IMO.

Silent locomotive? Brilliant idea.
And my finding - that cart Ionia - for seeing, are all joints in station's throat are aligned perfect, are all of switches and slips passable.

I also have a silent Route. There are no track sounds in it. Directly to check the sounds of the vehicle. Railway modellers would say an oval track, an idiot circle.

Sorry for off top, but isn't it crash the game?
Sherbinka test ring does, if to ride around.
(let's continue via PM, or maybe advice to me the topic about circular routes/paths)
