I dont use MSTS anymore, just use OpenRails
Is it safe to delete all *.SD files in SHAPES, GLOBAL and Loco/Wagon folders?
Lots of files but not much space taken

Hello
Where there is some kind of seasonal or night texture, it is necessary to use the file. I have one or two vehicles that also use the RAIN folder with its settings. This is stored in the ESD_Alternative_Texture ( X ) row.
As Aldarion mentioned, TSRE uses the ESD_Bounding_Box setting.
I think that's why it's still necessary.
Sincerely, Laci1959

Slightly off topic about *.SD files deletion, do not know about that ... HOWEVER ... John you can safely delete all the "e" and "n" raw files in any routes TILES folder. ORTS definitely does not use these files.

Don't delete the *.SD files for engines that have an ORTSBell-animation as it controlls the bells animation-speed

Yes, Gerry.
Those files have much greater sizes (64&256 kB per tile), so it's significant economy for 200-tiled route.
The good thing: once You'll attempt to run your route under MSTS, these files will be re-generated, so it's safe to delete them.
I also follow the suggestion to remove all ~bk files and *.thm, as I didn't attempt to modify shapes with TSM editor.

What is the correct ESD_alternative_Texture value to get OR to look for textures in the \Rain folder?

I've has several people complain to me that routes are missing snow textures because people have been told OR no longer uses SD files so go ahead any delete them. OR does use SD files for structures and vegetation that has an alternate seasonal texture. Why are we bothering to delete a 1 KB file that may or may not be used?
