I'm building the Ontario Northland TEE_Train. I built the first car, copied it and converted it to the second car. I also copied the first car to make the third car from. While chasing a bug today I found that the first two cars I built both get the same warning in the OR log. They appear to be warning that a shape is missing from the ONR_903.s file. This is a car from an entirely different folder and was not used or appears in the folder for the TEE-Train. Oddly enough, the third car that was created from the first car does not display the same warning.

The cars all appear in MSTS Activity Editor, and all run fine in Open Rails.

Warning: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\trains\trainset\ONR_TEE-Train\ONR_TEE_Car-A.wag references non-existent shape C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\trains\trainset\ONR_TEE-Train\ONR_903.s

Warning: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\trains\trainset\ONR_TEE-Train\ONR_TEE_Car-B.wag references non-existent shape C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\trains\trainset\ONR_TEE-Train\ONR_903.s

I have uncompressed the shape file for one of the cars looking for anything referring to ONR_903 and there is nothing. Any ideas?

Paul :-)

Very unreadable location for keeping ORTS game content (windows protects files in x86 folder and often deny access to them for running programs, so they can't use them)

Hi Paul,
I've already replied to your post on trainsim.com on this matter :)

For starters, you shouldn't really be using C:\Program Files (x86) for anything ORTS/MSTS - you'll have all sorts of 'funnies ! (Although probably not in this case).
I think that is what Weter was implying!
Secondly, the warning messages indicate that the ONR_TEE_Car-A.wag and ONR_TEE_Car-B.wag files have either WagonShape ( ONR_903.s ), or a passenger view which uses that shape. If it's the latter, then that would probably explain why MSTS AE doesn't complain.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,

Along with many others, my MSTS has been in Program Files (x86) for around 22 years now. Over the years I've made hundreds of pieces of rolling stock, and about a dozen routes. Over the years I've had people suggest that if anyone put their MSTS in Program Files (x86) or even used any of the files I made it may cause a fire. I upped my house and contents insurance just in case but well, still waiting.

The passenger view, copied and pasted that from 903, and missed changing it. Strangely enough, when I tried that passenger view while testing, it did go to the TEE-Train cars. I'll correct that now, Thanks.

Paul :-)

I you're still using XP the programs folder isn't an issue.
The problems with windows security started with 7.
Paul is probably still using 98. http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/derisive.gif

Very likely.
First, I've noted x86 folder in 64-bit W7.
Never seen it in XP - just ProgramFiles.

Paul is using Windows 7. It's off line so anything I need off the internet has to be downloaded to the laptop, then transferred to the Windows 7 computer with a removable hard drive.

I've had MSTS for 22 years, it went into Windows 95 I guess, but I've never had had it anywhere other then in Program Files (x98), and never had a problem with it. There are others who have always had it in (x98) as well... we talk off the forums so we don't start a fire!

1. Very clever. I'd do it the same way.
2. We both meant, that odd "protective" measures were applied in w7/64 onwards.
Before, there weren't any difference, exept user's comfort. I used D:\TS

The monitor for my Windows 7 computer is far larger then the screen on this Windows 11 laptop, so it's much easier for me to work with.
When I first installed MSTS I let it pick where to install and it went into (x86) so that's where it's always been.

Indeed, Paul: the larger screen - the better immersive effect.
Also, subwoofer, or good wide-range earphones at least.
I already have told, what a delight is to sit in front of 42" 2k TV,
With wireless keyboard and ride something with good cab.

Here is mentioned cab, by the way
