Having had some time working with the current contributing guidelines and the requirements it sets out, we (ORMT) thought it was time to update this to correct some problems and (hopefully) improve overall clarity.

Some highlights of the changes:

  • The documentation and translation exceptions are back - we might have been doing it this way all along but they were somehow missing from the current version
  • The small bug fix exception is back - if the change is <= 10 lines added or removed, and the reviewer agrees it is clear enough of a change, no need for a bug report
  • New features can be created as draft pull requests without anything else - we still require the forum discussion and road-map card (and its approval) before the pull request can be approved, but the order of things is now much more flexible and hopefully much clearer with the diagram I've added
  • The requirement for putting links in the merge commit itself is gone - it was hard and is no longer necessary for triage
