Erick,
Love the tanks. Best thing since sliced bread.
Wish I could puzzle out the layering. All 14 of them.
I'd like to repaint them for a local business.
Also, they appear see-through.
seethrough.JPG (51.91K)
Number of downloads: 4
This is using unmodified textures.
Anybody else working on these or the boxcars Erick released a while back?
Do you think they need simplification?
I'm having to use the .psd files using an importer for paint dot net. This works well.

Randy, I am (slowly). You have to get your head around how they work. Once you do, you'll see it is brilliant. It is actually considerably simpler than what has come before. The variations reflect the reality of the prototype (to a point - were are WAY more variations).

I am not sure why the textures show up transparent on your end - the alpha channel on the included cars is almost entirely white except for the sill areas and other transparencies. I just checked the textures that were in the base pack in imagetool to confirm this.
Unless this is from trying to repaint the model? Remember that you can alpha out everything, so you have to make sure anything that needs to be solid is white on the alpha channel. Also remember that any layer masks when you export to DDS will become part of the alpha channel.
For using the layers, all you have to do is make sure the correct shadow and highlight layers are visible. If you want a Type 27 car, delete or hide the GACX shadow and highlight layers. Similarly, hide or delete whatever brake wheel layers you are not using. Your colour layers should be above the wireframe layer and markings should go above the base coat. I recommend that weathering layers go above the highlight layer and below the shadow layer so that the weathering layers occlude highlights (since most rust and dirt should do this). The parts layer and top mask should be left more or less alone (although I do recolour the top mask to more or less match the average of the whole car). The wireframe layer is solely for your reference in placing markings and whatnot. The tank highlight layer should more or less also be left alone, although you can tune the transparency to your taste.

Hi Randy,
Looks great Randy - hah - Erick doing Friction Bearings - right up my alley.
Also - the individual weathering jobs - takes care of one of my common peeves in TS - march of the clones.
Nice work - Erick and Randy...
:)
Regards,
Scott

One of the cool parts is that the placards change for empty cars.

Does anybody know how to view these models other than having to open and close TSRE consist editor?
It's a pain when working on textures.
