Hi!

I have only managed to get it to work by naming the parts in the 3D cockpit like this:

Switch: ORTS_GENERIC_ITEM1:0:0

Movable item: ORTS_GENERIC_ITEM1:0:1

But the problem is that the item's animation only supports 1 frame, so I'm sure there must be another way for it to work.

On the other hand, it's not clear to me what the numbers associated with the sound events are.

Thank you very much.

What animation are you referring to, when you speak about 1 frame: the animation within the locomotive's .s file, or the internal animation within the 3D cab?
The two generic items are two-state, and the sound triggers are activated when there is a state transition.
If you can describe what your purpose is with these generic items, maybe it's easier to me to provide you the appropriate hints.

Indeed, I am referring to the animation of the moving part inside the 3D cab.

It's very simple: a switch in the 3D cab that, when pressed, sounds, and a piece moves, which, if possible, also sounds when it moves. I can't get it to work using the name for the moving part, and I don't know what the numbers of the sound triggers in the sms file are either...

Are that switch and that moving part two independent items, or must the piece move when the switch is pressed?
The associated trigger numbers are listed in the first post.

In the meantime the feature has been approved and will be present in next official Testing release.

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear, I thought I did.

It is indeed a part that should move when the switch is pressed.

I can't find any further explanation in the manual on GitHub either.

The numbers of the sound triggers are 240,241,242 and 243? I'll try them....

I don't think that it's possible to have a moving part within tbe 3D cab with these two controls. Internally the controls are of two-state type, and therefore their internal animation can assume only two positions. It is instead possible to have a linked moving part on the .s file of the locomotive, and that one can have multiple frames: I e.g. tried to replace the animation names of a door with multiple moving parts with the names foreseen for these two controls, and was able to open/close the doors with these controls.

So I understand that it is better to use a door or mirror control to produce a smooth movement in a moving element inside the 3D cockpit, such as a sunshield in this case. Is this correct?

I have tried changing the switch and the moving element to doors but it doesn't work, as it behaves like the door switches themselves, i.e. it opens and closes the train doors and also moves their switches...

No, the smooth movement is possible only for items in the locomotive's .s file, and not for items in the 3D cab .s file. I don't see solutions for your sunshield (which indeed is a nice idea) with the present feature. What you could have is only a moving sunshield seen from the outside, by adding its automation to the locomotive's .s file.

Thank you very much Carlo, that last one clears it all up for me.

Smooth animation is not possible in the 3D cab. Except for the mirrors and wipers, that's why I thought it would work in the 3D cab as well.
