Hi Gang,

I've been messing about with Shape Maker 5.0, rather unsuccessfully. To date, I have used 3ds Max to build models, export to 3ds, import to GMAX, and export to S file format. I discovered shape maker and tried converting a simple object with a single texture tonight. I ensured the object had a material name of SolidNorm, and exported in 3ds format as box2000.3ds. When I opened it in Shape Maker, it said that no LODs were found and the conversion didn't take place. I tried converting the same file using MSTSConv3dsInterface.exe, and it converted successfully. Can anyone provide insight as to what could be going on? Jonas?

Cheers,
Jason

P.S. Would it be possible to have Shape Maker include an option to link DDS files instead of ACE?

I have never seen Shape Maker so cannot comment on your P.S., but that option would be up to the developer to deal with.

Jason,
Could you provide a link to this program, I am at a loss trying to remember where/what it is?

Steve

Hi Steve,

It's referenced in the following thread:

http://www.elvastowe...are-to-s-files/

I believe it's the work of one of the ORTS development team, but I don't know that for sure.

The tool can be downloaded here:

Cheers,
Jason

Jason,

I read through this thread and it jogged my memory. I arrive at the same conclusion as the thread did, the use of Blender and using the exporter provided by Wayne Campbell. Except for the simplest of things, I am not very enthused with the .3ds format, let alone trying to convert it to the .s format. I do not know if you have tried Blender. My personal preference in Blender is not the current release with the "new" interface. But you can always try an older version, many of which are portable, so you can mix and match to your liking.

If you can solve the mystery with Shape Maker, please report back here. I would be interested, perhaps others too.

Steve
