Hi
I am having a problem loading a route in open rail.
This is the error message as found in the log:

I have deleted and reinstalled Open rails 1.3.1 , 1.2 and experimental, same results.
Also downloaded net framework SP2, still no go.
Open rails worked before the recent windows 10 update but not now.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,
As I recall the LPS installs modifications that . . . well here is a clip from the routes readme:

Quote

The L&PS route includes many customizations to the basic MSTS install.
To ensure these modifications don't interfere with your existing routes,
the L&PS setup program will create a mini-MSTS copy in a separate
directory.

I do remember not so long ago a user fouled himself (and his MSTS installation) up by not following the readme.
It was something to do with the install that uses a modified \GLOBAL\TSection.dat file.
I do not know the exact details of what "...many customizations to the basic MSTS install..." means but it's possibly something you would want to check although your log shows that you have the LPS in a mini-route setup.

I also see you have the Performance Tuner activated.
This has caused obscure graphics anomalies reported in the forums. Maybe try running with it turned off. (Options>experimental Tab)
Nothing else jumps out of the log except it seems to be complaining about a graphics issue.

regards,
vince

It looks to me the offending line is this :
Error: System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Users\Ron\AppData\Local\Temp\tmpA87F.tmp' because it is being used by another process.

I'm not sure what this file is supposed to do, but I know of two reasons which may cause this problem.

  • A previous run is kept 'hanging', claiming this file.
Only way to sort this is to fully switch off the computer.
  • OR opens this file which is then locked by a virusscanner to check it. OR then tries to remove or alter the file but the virusscanner has not yet released it, so OR cannot access it, and crashes.
To sort this depends on what virusscanner you are using. You might be able to instruct it not to check files created by OR.
To test if this is indeed happening you could temporarily switch off the virusscanner.

What you could do is actually check if this file exists, and if you can access it or remove it. If it does exist and you cannot remove it, it is still locked by something.

Regards,
Rob Roeterdink

Hi Vince and Rob:
Thanks for your reply. I have been working on making Open Rails load routes again for a couple of hours today. Thinking back I remember that the problem began just after an automatic windows update session when strange things began to happen like new programs began to appear on my desktop that I never downloaded. So I tried scanning with Avast the anti virus software - no virus. I then tried malware software and found about 130 PUPs from the update. Quarantined them first then deleted them, tried Open Rails, It works like before the update.

Thanks again for your effort to solve my Open Rails problem.

Ron
