In May 1984 a well known German steam locomotive enthusiast and railway photographer spent some time in the US chasing SP # 4449 which pulled "The Louisiana World’s Fair Daylight" that year. This special train ran from Portland, OR to New Orleans, LA and back, visiting the "1984 Louisiana World Exposition" and covering about 7.500 miles (without diesel assistance)!

He's currently sharing his pictures in a German railway history forum. Maybe they are of interest here as well?

Part 1, Portland, OR to Sacramento, CA: https://www.drehsche...php?017,9004497

Part 2, Sacramento, CA to Fresno, CA: https://www.drehsche...php?017,9011898

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do. :thumbup3:

Thanks for sharing the links. I really liked the consist they had for the 1984 trips. It's a shame a proper Daylight trainset hasn't been put together for the 4449 to use on it's excursions.
