File Category: Standard Gauge Maintenance of Way models (Open Rails only)

PROTOTYPE

The "Gertie Buck" is a vertical-boiler steam powered standard gauge track inspection car. It was built in 1883 and used by the A.G. Dewey family on the 14-mile Woodstock Railway.
The railroad ran from White River Junction Vt. to Woodstock Vt. untill 1933.

Gertie Buck is now on static display at the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne Vt.

MODEL

This model is based on photos and measurements taken at the Shelburne Museum.

Software used was 3DCrafter 9.2.2 Build 1546.

The inspection car is for OR only.

Eng file uses format recommended by Peter Newell.

Engineer and passenger set were generously provided by Tom Werb.

Textures wherever possible were lifted from photos of the prototype.

Recent information was discovered that confirmed Gertie Buck was coal fired with coal stored in canisters on the rear deck.
The beta model showed racks of wood for firing.

OPERATION

Gertie Buck cruises along nicely at 10 to 15 mph with 15 to 25% cutoff and 20 to 40% throttle depending on grades. Since it is relatively light, you will need to watch for wheel slippage.
Or, you can drive her with ORTS advance adhesion turned off.
The prototype had hand actuated wood blocks on front wheels only for braking. The model has this minimal braking also through the [ and ] keys.

CREDITS

Tom Werb aka "Sandy River Tom" for creating the customized engineer / passenger set and providing beta model review.

LEGAL

You may package and distribute the Gertie Buck model only to whomever you wish as long as everyone keeps everything free.

Engineer and passenger shapes and textures ( GertieBuckCrew) are provided for this model by Tom Werb and may not be copied, modified and/or transferred to a different model for distribution.

I adore the Gertie Buck, but be sure to compress those shape files before uploading.
