It's October 28, 1948, K-27 #456 departs Montrose at 9:40 AM with 23 empties*. The crew (Conductor Mahoney, & Engineer Russell) sets out 8 cars at Fairview & pulls into Cedar Creek at 10:30 AM.
Montrose was a busy place at one time (with the Black Canyon line, Ouray Branch & a standard gauge line from Grand Junction). Today, there is - in a way - still trains heading to & from this location.
Fairview is the site of a 44 car siding, & probably a station as well.
Lujane is the site of beet loading, & siding.
Cedar Creek is the site of a wye, 42 car siding, Telegraphone facility & water tank. Trains wait 10 minutes for inspection.
* 8 empty gondolas for Fairview, 14 empty stock cars Cedar Creek, & a caboose.

After 1 hour switching, air test, and the crew having lunch, the 456 departs Montrose at 12:20 PM on a Cerro Summit turn & pulls into Cedar Creek at 1:10 PM. Because of the number of empties (23 mixed empties) & the tonnage ( a K-27 can pull at least 183 tons up a 4% grade) the crew decided on doing a double ( taking 2 trips to take all the cars to Cerro Summit).

After switching, the crew performs the 2nd Cerro Summit turn. The train departs Cedar Creek 3:10 PM, pulls into Cerro Summit 3:55 PM, where the crew did switching, then the train leaves Cerro Summit 4:10 PM, & pulls into Cedar Creek a little while later. Cerro Summit is the site of a siding, wye & a Telegraphone facility.
