There was a brief discussion on head-tracking devices but I can't now find it.

One of my birthday presents today was a head-tracker from http://www.edtracker.co.uk/. It's totally wireless and doesn't involve a camera but here's a camera system in use with Train Sim World

My plan is to explore the possibilities for Open Rails and see what I can get working. It's installed now on my PC, so the next step is to see what Open Rails can do with it and whether any programming is needed.

Thank you for looking into head tracking. I have a TrackIR and have used it for years in MSFS.
Makes all the difference especially if you have a 3D Cockpit (Cab). I have experimented with
TrackIR in OR using mouse emulation but not entirely satisfactory. Hope to see your progress!

Paul

Thanks for your encouragment, Paul.

The EdTracker is intended to provide attitude values (yaw, pitch, roll) for some "middleware" software - they recommend OpenTrack. OpenTrack sees the changing attitude values and turns them into inputs which well-known games expect (including mouse emulation).

Sadly when I tried, the mouse emulation did nothing for Open Rails and perhaps it was a bit hopeful to expect otherwise.

As the OpenTrack software is written in C#, it should be possible for me to dig in and find out how it picks up the attitude values from EdTracker. After that there are several possible routes:
- move that part of the code into Open Rails itself
- emulate the mouse and cursor controls
- use a WebAPI to interface with Open Rails

I expect anything done for EdTracker can also be done for TrackIR.
