While looking for something else this morning, I was reminded to post the following links for .WAV files of a variety of Steam Whistles (and a page of interesting diesel honrns). Since they're .WAV files, they can be downloaded and used in the game with very little effort.
For the purists, there are 'official' identified sounds but for my brother and I, these sites provided a delightful assortment of sounds to try out on various locomotives. Some of the files are marvelously useful!
Enjoy

These sound pretty good for the most part. I would definitely consider making some of these work in MSTS/OR.

Hi Folks,
FYI
I just clicked on what was supposed to be download for a whistle on the "Steam-Whistles" site listed above and it made some undesirable changes to my PC. While not technically a Virus - as MalWareBytes didn't catch it - it did enable annoying popups from the browser in the windows "Action Center" - bottom right of screen - "Warning Your Computer has been Infected McCaffee" messages. You need to go into your browser and disable the "Cookies and Extensions" for the respective site. I just sorted by date and blocked the recent one added "ADO" something...
Just an FYI - YMMV.
Regards,
Scott
