Cool repaints. :good:
Those Black Cat reefer cars remind me of one I made up a number of years ago. They were black and white as well but lettered for the global coorporation in the anime "Tamala 2010", the cat was the coorporations mascot and featured on all their products.

And then two different Nickel Plate Road reefers. I wish I could get weathering under my belt...
Anyone good at that and be willing to help me weather any of my cars? If I could get a couple different weather layers to apply across the collection, I could use them and I'd be both grateful and happy to share with group after..

And for those still following my madness, I've completed 73 cars to date...in this post. I had done some earlier cars this year but need to redo a few of them (and a few of the early ones in this thread as I think I've got a better method and look now.
Still have a few more challenging gems to finish, then I hope to start a new project -- tankcars -- though I also have a few passenger sets that are getting close to being revealed. While none of my work is up to the standards of the artists who work graces these web pages, I'm still having fun -- both with the process and with the results.
Stay tuned...

It is definitely a good start, and already look much more "realistic" than your fleet looking like freshly painted cars.

IIRC the ICC declared billboard reefers illegal in 1934 with a removal date before 1937. All such cars were leased, not owned by whoever was using them. Cars actually owned by the shipper were not billboard cars, even if they were embellished like one.
The whole problem with these cars is they'd get painted with a product ad by the leasing company and then leased out in that scheme to some other company, possibly a competitor to the firm painted on the car. It simply wasn't fair and the ICC banned them.
Reviewing the cars posted above, there are a couple presented that are NOT billboard reefers: the red Swift Reefers (owner by Swift, those might be post WWII), possibly the Hershey cars (Hershey actually owned such cars), the NKP cars (class I railroads did not paint billboards on their cars), and the Hercules cars (owned by Hercules; I have a photo of a car bearing a completely different appearance), and last, the URTX cars leased to the ERIE -- no product advertising shown.
All of the rest would have been repainted in 1935-36.

Dave:
Spoilsport.
:rotfl:
Okay... so most of them are NOT perfect for the transition era... but they're still a welcomed addition, no?

I've been trying to get weathering tackled but it's a struggle. Thanks to Tim's help, I've been making a few tests to see if I can weather.
Here's my first decent attempts. I'm not really happy with the results but figured it's a start...

Good start indeed! Are you using layers with your weathering?
These are fun; keep at it, you're doing well.
