You could also make the lever the child of a dummy which provides rotation, with the axis of the lever set at the point where you want mouse control, and both parts tagged as the same control (but without any animation on the part of the lever), for example, throttle:0:0 for the dummy and throttle:0:1 for the handle. Then you can click on either part's pivot to move the lever.

That's something I haven't tried before. I'll give it a go.
Thanks, Geoff

To Chris Jakeman,
In another thread on 3d cabs, Csantucci posted a link to these files. This is the very fine Hungarian Diesel 3D cab example. The controls work using mouse control, and the whole thing looks great.

There is a hungarian DMU set which has this implemented. Here http://vm15.hu/download.php?view.357 you can download the trainsets;here http://vm15.hu/download.php?view.353 you can download the cab;here http://vm15.hu/download.php?view.354 you can download the sound.

If the author of this would be agreeable, this would be a good subject for the video you mentioned.

Geoff

So here is a video showing my progress so far. I thought people may find this interesting. Still some more controls to add, but cutoff regulator and firedoor are all working with mouse control.

Here is a second video. This time I left the mouse pointer enabled in Bandicam. It shows how the mouse is actuating the controls. Note that the actuation point is on the handle, rather than the pivot. Particularly important with the firehole mechanism, as there are potentially 5 axes that the mouse could pick up - 1 for each part, but you want it to operate on the top part of the handle.

That's great, Geoff.

Delighted to use it and moving around a 3D cab and operating the controls with the mouse is a very substantial step forward. Nice model too.

Thanks Chris, I am adding more controls and details as I go along. There may be an updated video before you have to publish. Do you have a deadline in mind for when this next release will be?

Not yet. If I said May, that would just be a guess.

It takes me a while to assemble a video showing off the new features, which is why I've not done one recently. This time I'm trying to get ahead of the game :-)
