I've seen quite a few comments on Diesel Exhaust Smoke so I've been playing with this little annoyance for some time and I'll throw this test sample out there for your perusal .
You can bend twist and mutilate to your hearts content but I'm just giving you some ideas . Try it first after you save your present ace file and then run it . Now look at the ace
and see where the colors come from . Now you can change the colors to suit you and then change your exhaust properties for your engines if so desired .
If you don't find it interesting , you know where the DELETE button is - - OK ?

Give it a try - might be worthwhile !

Alright, where does this file go, Hobo? What folder do I put it in?

In the Textures folder in the Global folder in Train Simulator or any mini routes. Not sure it has any effect on ORTS.

Scratch that. Adds a lot of blue and reduces the overall quantity.

Hi Rick !
Unzip the file somewhere , go to your Global directory in the Sim where your routes are , open up the textures directory and rename your regular Dieselsmoke ace to something like Dieselsmoke.acegood or what you want . Now copy the test ace to the textures directory and run whichever Sim you use . If you don't want to play around with it and modify it , just delete it and rename your good ace back to dieselsmoke.ace .
I'm using ORTS so I know it has an effect there .
The original idea came from a Simmer in New Zealand I believe .

P/S I just yanked the file . I found out that the file was originally a freeware from Diesels West . I checked and it can still be downloaded .
Sorry 'bout that .

I have posted this more than once, but here it is again.

When you create an install (Mini-route or mini install. What ever you want to call it.) without installing the MSTS CDs, there are two files that you need from the MSTS disk or from other sources such as the Train-Sim.com library or from 3dTrains or from Diesels West. The files are dieselsmoke.ace and smokemain.ace. They are for diesels and steam respectively. Without those files the exhaust is squares of exhaust smoke.

A search for "Smoke ace" on T-S.com yields 6 files with replacements for Smokemain.ace. 3dTrains and Diesels West have replacements for dieselsmoke.ace in their free downloads.
