....now you don't.

Beta testing a new route for a friend. He's using XTracks and is primarily designing the route for MSTS. I am almost exclusively ORTS and am looking at the route in both media. Here's a shot rolling across the plains in MSTS:

Notice that the ballast is wide and is present to the horizon.

Now here is nearly the same place in ORTS, same route, similar train (Marc's new ORTS F's):

Notice that the ballast is full width alongside the train, then narrows to the end of the ties up ahead and then disappears altogether about 500 yards out. The width of the ballast is not constant but goes in and out randomly.

ORTS bug? Known fix?

Additional testing would indicate that this is a route-specific problem. It also occurs on some older routes, such as Patrick Wise's Cajon Pass, but not on others like the ATSF routes by Robert Wirth. Commercial routes, like 3DTrains' WP and the new Sherman Hill don't seem to exhibit the problem.

Any ideas guys? :bigboss:

My guess would be that the track is "too close" to the ground. I'm not sure what distance "too close" is though.

I wondered about that. I'll try a little "Y" key action and see what happens.... :bigboss:

I see the opposite on certain routes. Usually certain sections of the track are floating just above the terrain. Using the the Y key fixes this.

Yes, same also happens with me on some routes. I guess when the tracks are very flat such problems seems to occur.... :)
