Am curious as to why US Tons are marked stn instead of tns, ton, or tons.
Does stn really mean something or is it just a typo? AFACT it refers to an airport outside of London. :thumbup3:

It is short ton (as opposed to long ton with Imperial UK setting, ltn).

I may change it to anything you ask. Just when I searched for standard abbreviation of imperial units, I found that the official answer is, that unlike SI, everyone may abbreviate them as he likes to. LOL! I liked it this way. :wheelchair:

UStn and UKtn might do the trick.
I think it unlikely that anyone on either side of the Atlantic knows whether their ton is/was long or short (and what has length got to do with it anyway??) so the country initials might make it clear.

One problem is with that: the string that fits into a column comfortably may be max. 9 characters long.
For a locomotive e.g. "123.5 UStn", it is 10 characters. Removing the space typographically is ugly and primitive looking. This is the dilemma I had to face with.
Resolution can be removing characters from the beginning or the end: USt-UKt, Stn-Ktn, or alternatively Atn-Etn as American-English. :wheelchair: Just joking.

Why not just drop the "n"? So it's "122.3 USt" and "122.3 UKt"

Chris has a very good idea there... I'll vote for it.
