I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti - 2047MB, I have been running OR with the following settings:
RUNACTIVITy.exe (or LAA.EXE)
anisotropic filtering...............................................16X
antialiasing fxaa....................................................ON
antialiasing gamma correction.............................ON
antialiasing mode..................................................OVERRIDE APP SETTING
antialiasing setting................................................32X CSAA
antialiasing transparency......................................8X (supersample)
cuda - gpu's............................................................ALL
extension limit.......................................................GLOBAL(OFF)
maximum pre-rendered frames..............................4
multi-display/mixed-gpu acceleration....................SINGLE-DISPLAY MODE
texture filtering-anisotropic sample optim............OFF
texture filtering-negative LOD bias........................CLAMP
texture filtering-quality...........................................QUALITY
texture filtering-trilinear optimization....................ON
threaded optimization.............................................ON
triple buffering.........................................................ON
texture filtering-aniostropic filter optimization......OFF
vertical sync............................................................ADAPTIVE

I was still seeing some of the usual suspects (moire patterns, shearing, etc. - not too bad, but sometimes noticeable ) in ORTS. I knew this card was capable of better performance.
SO on the premise that more is not always better I began systematically turning settings down, minimizing them, or using the global default.

At a certain point the appearance of OR become markedly improved, much better, some of the things I was seeing was due to having the settings set to max.
Here are the new settings
Settings for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650Ti (2048 MB)
RUNACTIVITy.exe (or LAA.EXE)
anisotropic filtering...............................................Global Setting (App Controlled)
antialiasing fxaa....................................................ON
antialiasing gamma correction.............................Global (On)
antialiasing mode..................................................OVERRIDE APP SETTING
antialiasing setting................................................2X
antialiasing transparency......................................Multisample
cuda - gpu's............................................................Global (ALL)
maximum pre-rendered frames..............................1
multi-display/mixed-gpu acceleration....................SINGLE-DISPLAY MODE
power management mode.......................................Prefer Maximum Performance
shader cache..........................................Global Setting (On)
texture filtering-anisotropic sample optim............OFF
texture filtering-negative LOD bias........................CLAMP
texture filtering-quality........................................... HIGH QUALITY
texture filtering-trilinear optimization....................ON
threaded optimization.............................................ON
triple buffering.........................................................Global (Off)
vertical sync............................................................ADAPTIVE
Virtual Reality pre-rendered frames...............................Global (1)

(some more settings were added by Nvidia during a recent driver update)
Believe me when I say I am no expert in these matters, but sometimes if you have a good video card and OR is still not presenting a satisfactory appearance perhaps you should start by turning some things down or off.
Anyone with knowledge about what the before and after settings actually accomplished is welcome to post. I got some hunches.
I did not post any screenshots because some of the effects are not all that noticeable in a still, much more apparent in a video.

If this should be moved to PC discussion, by all means.

Edit (2-19-2015): I should add that I am still tinkering around, some settings have jumped up a notch or two, like antialiasing setting went from 2x to 4x. Texture filtering quality set to High was a good move.

Because it's a specific post for OR, so I'll pin it here. Maybe move it later if requested.
