After a short stint with 500 radial-roofed double-sheathed boxcars of the XM-27 class, the CB&Q reverted back to the road standard of single-sheathed design with the XM-28, 500 of which were turned-out by the Galesburg shops in 1928. These were numbered in the 25000-25499 series, and featured 4/4 Dreadnaught ends, Hutchins Dry Lading roofs, and Andrews trucks.
