The first CB&Q boxcars to have what was to become the standard inside length of 40 feet and 6 inches. Thes cars were extensively used in grain service. The cars went through very little changes through their service life. Some cars recieved metal gussets welded to the tops of the side ribbing, but not all of the class recieved this stiffening attempt beginning in the 1940's. CB&Q cars got Andrews Trucks, while the Fort Worth & Denver cars got the so-called Bettendorf AAR-styled trucks.
