I have come to the conclusion that routes using the UK finescale track system are unusable in Open Rails due to a severe graphic problem that does not occur in MSTS. The problem is manifest in the way the ballast and ties on a lot of track sections rapidly alternate along half of the shape as the player moves along the track.

I have tried two so far, Somerset & Dorset and Scottish Central Plus. Maybe it is a graphics card setting ( Nvidia ), maybe not.

Without pictures (or being at my PC to try it) I can't really be sure what you mean, but have you set the "Texture filtering - Quality" to "High Quality"? That fixes a bug in the NVIDIA drivers which affects textures like track ballast in OR.

I am using Textures - Quality - High Quality in the Global settings as adding the OR runactivity or the LAA do not appear on my list of programs.

Looking at this screen shot, in MSTS all ties are visible above the ballast, but in OR you get what you see in the shot. This effect moves along with the player.

Ah, yes, they've placed the items too close together. That's clearly the result of OR's anti-shimmering/Z-bias code. The alternative is massive z-fighting.

Whatever the cause, I guess I cant toss MSTS out yet then. I will need it to run these routes. Oh well.

For such a minor graphical glitch, really? I don't understand such statements.

On a 200 mile route that is not a minor graphical glitch. As MSTS has no such problem with this track system, there can be no other choice until OR will allow the same performance. There are other large routes that use Xtracks with similar problems. I think in these cases it is the use of Mosaic textures that is the cause.

I don't see it as minor either, as most of the routes i enjoy use UKFS track.

Something which also ruins UKFS routes, is the lack of the correct visual depiction, when SE is enabled.

I know nothing about modelling or file manipulation in OR. So is there possibly an easy fix at user level ?

Is this in any way related to the Mosaic / vegetation "flicker" I've seen when I set my graphics settings to "performance"?

James, I expect are a lot of laymen who'd like that translated from the original tech into English. Might you oblige?
