The idea behind this is to have a place where working algorythyms/ functions that may be usefull in the future, ie this IS NOT AN IDEAS thread but where working solutions to a future problem can be posted. Probably be nice for it to be sticky.

First cab off the rank.

I stated in another thread there was an easy way to get a world model more accurate without having to account for the earths true shape. This will not make up for a particular projections basic weakness but it will allow one to use a spherical earth but get distance accuracy as if one used the earths true shape.

When the terrain is generated what is done a specific distance stated as so many say degree latitude is calibrated to the actual distance this arc takes up by calculating the spherical earths actual diameter to make an arc of that distance.
Example, in a route one is starting the measured distance between say 36.000 to 37.000 degrees south latitude measures as 107.0 kilometres. This is used to calculate the earths diameter to be used in the terrain generation with the formula D*360/Pi= Diameter . 107.0*360 = 38520 kilometers / PI = 12261.3 kilometers earth diameter to be used.

This will successfully account for the variation in the earths shape in different parts of the globe for the PARTICULAR part of the world the route is in. Distances in the train sim will then be very close to reality.

I cannot imagine anyone will use it but just in case...............
