Starting with X2519, I have encountered a problem when I attempt to load saved files. The issue is that I am attempting to load the files into the OR version in which they were saved. The most recent example occurred using X2587. The error message I received is:

Save file is incompatible with this version of Open Rails

C:\Users\Gary\AppData\Roaming\Open Rails\csx q236 2014-10-14 19.52.09.save

Saved Version: X2587
Current Version: X2587
.

Further, the problem appears to occur for those saves made at a specific location or point in the activity. I have included the error log related to the problem. Given that I have run at least one activity on this route (CSX W&A) without any save-related problems since encountering this issue, my thinking is that the problem is specific to this activity (CSX Q236). Perhaps the attached error log may shed some light on this.

Thanks very much for any help.

Gary

Hello,
I would like to help you but I haven't this route.
I will try to find and to install it. I will be back as soon as I got the route, if I can.
Could you try to get a good saved file just before the problem ?
Thanks

Stef

I have a similar problem with saves, however with different circumstances.

When I save the game in timetable mode, it appears that for the first time I am able to load it back without problems. But if I try to load exactly the same save 2nd time (no matter if I restart OpenRails in between), then OpenRails first asks me to locate the save file in a file browser window, and after I pointed on it and after some work it gives the above error message. The problem is reproducible, although I tried only on one (non-default) route.

Hello,
@Gary,
I got the route... and the activity but the player path seems broken (corrupted)!
If you have one for me....

@Peter,
Maybe the problem is the same as for Gary. I will check it as soon as possible and give feedback

Stef

Thanks for working on this, Stef. The broken player path issue is a distinct possibility as I can successfully load saves up to a specific location along the route beyond which point, saved versions will not load.

I'll take a shot at fixing the path later today.

Again, thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Gary

Possibly a way to prevent this "Is it a bug" or is it the MSTS activity itself is broken would be to at least prove out the error is NOT an Open Rails problem would be to at the least run a full test using Route_Riter before posting a complaint?

It was tested with Route Riter without issue. That's why the description of the problem was posted in "Maybe it's a bug," Maybe it is ... maybe it isn't.

While it's always good to check things with Route_Riter and similar tools first, they will typically only catch errors which cause MSTS problems, where as a whole different set of things can cause OR problems.

Hi Gary/James,

It's been my experience that a broken path will be flagged as an error in the Route_Riter [ICHK] test on the Route_Riter TSUtils tab.

It's all a matter of selecting the proper test(s) to run.

Things like missing shapes, missing rolling stock or broken paths are basic to both MSTS and Open Rails and will cause failures in both sims BUT . . . the proper test must be selected to flesh out the problem.

In other words, running the [CHECK ROUTE] test on the Route Utils Tab will not find broken paths.
Running the [ICHK] test on the TSUtils Tab will.
Activity errors, missing consists and rolling stock can be fully tested (and certain errors repaired) will be
found on the Activities / Stock Tab.

Regards,
vince

Gary, did you rework the first AI traffic train? It starts at the same time as activity start time, also is directly on the players path - ahead - that train needs to be reworked to start ahead of player, and provide rationale for first activity message.
Route Riter will show this activity as okay, even with the time start conflicts at the beginning. All my paths were fine, none broken.
My save and resume works okay. OR X2576
