I'd like to promote the "Fast full-screen alt-tab" option from an experiment to a fully-fledged option (on Video tab) and suggest that it be enabled by default.

  • Pro: You can alt-tab out the game at any time, including during loading, without breaking anything and without any costly display mode switch.
  • Pro: You can interact with other programs on any monitor without the game minimizing.
  • Pro: The screenshot button, Print Screen, is more likely to work (i.e. it'll work as well as it does in windowed mode).
  • Con: The performance suffers a small amount. I believe it is <5% but will vary.

You'd still be able to turn it off, but I believe the pros easily outweigh the cons. Do people agree?

My 24" monitor loves it! I'd be happier with it being the default option and therefore vote yes!

Hi James,
I'm in favour - works fine for me.

Cheers,
Sid

I don't use the alt-tab. My keyboard has a Windows key that takes me straight to the desktop when I hit it no matter what program I'm in.
I'm against it if it takes up valuable resources. 5% here 5% there will all add up and is substantial IMO.

:)

Personally, I also like this feature disabled. If I really need to let the game running in the background, I have my "Windows" key, that also Rick mentions. Only drawback of that method is, that it works during loading, but will let things in ORTS go havoc then. But that´s what a 5% performance gain should be worth to me and my computer, that definitely is not anywhere near top-notch :)

Anyway, since it will stay an option, I´ll just uncheck it and will be happy again :)

Cheers, Markus

I've promoted the fast full-screen alt-tab option to non-experimental in X2499, but consensus doesn't seem to exist on making in default-on, so I have left it default-off for now.
