ENGINES PROVIDED IN PLAYER DRIVEABLE AND AI VERSIONS

These models have been constructed to represent how these engines would have appeared
in the 1930's to 1950'S.

The following historical and technical information is derived from the books
"Frisco Power - Locomotives and Trains of the St.Louis-San Francisco Railway 1903-1953" by Joe G. Collias 1997, and
"Steam Locomotives of the Frisco Line" by Lloyd E. Stagner 1976:

These engines were purchased by the Frisco in response to the demands of longer, heavier passenger trains in the 1920's. The first group of 15 engines numbered 1500-1514 were purchased from Baldwin in 1923. These first engines were equipped with Baker valve gear and did not have the air reservoirs mounted on top of the boiler. The second group was ordered in 1925, engine numbers 1515-1519, and were equipped with Walschaerts valve gear, top mounted air reservoirs, and also a larger diameter smokebox door. The last group delivered by Baldwin in 1926, numbered 1520-1529, went back to the smaller smokebox door and were originally built as coal burners. Soon all were converted to oil, and 12 of the engines including 1522 received trailing truck boosters. These engines were retired and scrapped by 1953, with the exception of 1501, 1519, 1526, 1527, 1522, and 1529 which were preserved.

MODELING INFORMATION:

Locomotive and Tender models created in 3DCrafter Professional Edition, Version 9.1.1 (Build 1256). Post Processing of shape file performed with Shapefixer File Version 0.1.0.39 by Paul Gausden. Textures created using MS Paint and Photoshop Elements 6.0, and converted to .ace format by TGATool2A and AceIt by Scott Miller.

NOTE: With the exception of numbering, these models were not designed with re-texturing in mind so repaints will be difficult if not impossible to accomplish. Renumbering may be accomplished by editing the files SLSF1519nums.ace, SLSF1522nums.ace, SLSF1526nums.ace, and SLSF1529nums.ace .

INSTALLATION:

Unzip SLSFOR1500s.zip to a temporary folder.

Move contents to ..\Train Simulator\ folder

Accept write overs if prompted, which will place a single engine consist for each locomotive in the CONSISTS folder and the "SLSF1500s" Locomotive folder in the TRAINSET folder.

NOTES ON BUILDING CONSISTS WITH THE DIFFERENT ENGINE FILE TYPES SUPPLIED:

Included in this release are 2 types of locomotives to be used depending on their use as the lead or trailing / helper engine in a player controlled consist, or on an AI train. AI engines are supplied with different light specifications for automatic operation, and are not equipped with interior sounds or cab views. Player controllable or AI consists should be created as follows:

All positions in a Player consist (lead, pusher, helper, etc): slsf1522.eng, slsf1522tend.wag
AI consist in any position: slsf1522AI.eng, slsf1522tend.wag

Engine Numbers 1519, 1526, or 1529 may be substituted in the examples above. The auxiliary water car used by 1522 in excusrsion service is also included, and can be added by including slsf1522auxtend.wag behind the regular tender in the consist.

NOTE: Engine files which contain "xtra" in their names denote those engines which have the class lights turned on. Engine files without "xtra" in their names have the class lights turned off.

WOW Derek!

I just finished staring at Klaus' latest shots of your creation. What a beautiful model! I am a narrow gauge nut but I gotta say that I'm liking this an awful lot. :lol2: And I've gotta agree, the documentation is as good as the model. Thank you for sharing this with us. :D :) We are indeed very lucky. I downloaded her a few days ago but have been busy with chores around the house so I haven't run her yet but am definitely looking forward to it.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have updated these engines to correct a problem with the way the engine shape files were constructed. In my testing, in versions of Open Rails prior to 2511, the trailing trucks did not pivot as they should have when the engines went through curves or switches. The shape files have all been updated to correct this, and to also place the pivot point in the correct location at the front of the Trailing Truck rather than in the middle. These new shapes were tested in Open Rails version 2511 and verified to be working as intended.

I have added an additional file you can download by following the download links - this file is called "SLSFOR1500sShapesUpdate9-24-14.zip". Simply download and unzip this file, and follow the instructions in the included Readme.txt to install the updated shapes.

If you are downloading the main file "SLSFOR1500s.zip" after 9/24/2014, you do not need the update file since I have updated the main download file with the new shapes.
