I had occasion to suppress the drawing of terrain polys (a feature in Mosaic) and on checking my work noticed a H U G E black circle underground.

I don't know if it is supposed to be down there or if something as gone awry when Mosaic has set terrain to be not drawn.

FWIW, what I'm doing is eliminating all of the polys that fill each sub-tile that lie under the surface of Lake Michigan... with view distances out to 10km that's a lot of polys under the water and I'm hopeful that by not drawing them there are more CPU cycles available to render all of the more interesting stuff at higher fps.

Did you create distant mountains? Have a Low Tile folder? I'm guessing the big black ring you're seeing is the ring for distant mountains. The height can be adjusted so it's just below the terrain height, the reason it's black is just to screw with your head!... ok, not really sure at this point... is this an OR thing maybe?

Hi,

I got the same thing, (the big black circle) forcing the 2 view while traveling thru the DL&W Bergen Hill tunnel, checking the air shafts (Open Cuts on their Valuation Maps).

I do not have Mosaic, and have not seen that circle before in ORTS, but I think it's ORTS driven, not something from Mosaic. I think it might be the "floor" of the sky dome.

I see it in my route as well. it's a disc and not a ring, think it's the way to China.

Don't mind the black circle - it's just the area below/not covered by the sky. The default "empty" colour was changed from a medium-dark grey to black a while ago after the sky was extended a bit below the horizon. If everything is working right in a completed route, the black should always be covered. If the route is incomplete, expect to see it through any holes. :sign_thanks:

It's not a tunnel to China... they've been lying all these years... geez.

Try a really large drain plug, Dave, otherwise the humungeous coriolis effect will draw you down the plughole. http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/sweatingbullets.gif

Cheers Bazza.
