As you can see in this pic, the hand brake is overwriting something and I can't release the brakes all the way either.
Why won't the brakes release and why is there overwriting?
The brakes only go to 64-65-64 and that's it.
What's up here?

How long is the train you are coupled to and have you coupled to the consist directly before?

Cheers, Markus

It's a single engine diesel loco running in explore route with no cars.
If you wish to check out the diesel engine I'm using, DL here;

Seems like a bug then.

I just wanted to be sure you didn´t have 100 hoppers with badly set up brake parameters. I once encountered this, but before posting I checked the brake HUD - error found.

Yet, this issue seems to be deeper in something else.

Cheers, Markus

To get correct visuals in the HUD you need to have the Brake_Train statement in the eng file. The engine brake is shown as a percentage while the train brake shows the brake system psi. Without the Train_Brake the system cannot fully release the brakes giving rise to the anomaly you see.

Thanks, but this locomotive does not have any train brakes cuz it doesn't pull any cars. Only a locomotive brake.
How do we fix this?

Simply add a trainbrake setup, even if it will be of no use (I guess, if you have it but have not defined it as a control, or a control with only the release position, everything should be fine).

Just tested using only a release position for the train brake, works perfectly. Change these two lines as well , BrakesTrainBrakeType( "Air_single_pipe" ) from twin pipe, BrakesEngineControllers( "Independent,Train" ) , this is what defines the brakes, must have train to work properly. When you add the Brake_Train in the controllers section, remove all notches except for release, this leaves the train brake in a permanent state of release, allowing the engine or independent to operate normally.

I can't seem to get this to work.
First off, I've never done a engine file in my life. Don't have a clue how it works so following your instructions is crucial.
My train brake section looks like this;

TrainBrakesControllerMaxApplicationRate( 10 )
TrainBrakesControllerMaxReleaseRate( 10 )
TrainBrakesControllerEmergencyApplicationRate( 30 )
TrainBrakesControllerMinSystemPressure( 0 )
TrainBrakesControllerMaxSystemPressure( 90 )
TrainBrakesControllerEmergencyBrakeTimePenalty( 0 )
TrainBrakesControllerFullServicePressureDrop( 26 )

BrakesTrainBrakeType( "Air_single_pipe" )
BrakesEngineControllers( "Independent,Train" )

What am I doing wrong?

You also need to add this in the Controllers section after the Brake_Engine

Brake_Train ( 0 1 0.0125 0.75
NumNotches ( 1
Notch ( 0 0 TrainBrakesControllerReleaseStart )

)
)

This will give you a permanently released train brake, the engine brake will work as intended and the brake pipe display will also work normally.
