Hello. Train line pressures are greater for passenger trains than for freight trains. However, have you noticed that despite this fact, freight locomotives are sometimes used to pull passenger trains? I learned that this is due to the feed valve (aka Trainline Air Pressure Adjustment Valve). This allows the trainline and EQ reservoir pressure to be adjusted so freight locomotives can be used as helpers in passenger service and switchers can work in coach yards. This is what makes "dual-service" locomotives possible. (for more information, see Barry Andrews' air brake tutorial, brakes01.zip, in the Train-Sim.com file library)
I am wondering if there is any way to incorporate operating feed valves in the future. Previously, to allow this kind of flexibility for a single locomotive meant having two .eng (and in the case of steamers, two tender .wag files) for the same loco, with the difference being the AirBrakesMainMaxAirPressure parameter. Having operational feed valves takes away this disk-space-eating requirement.
Also, other ideas include bail-offs on steam engines, and also having the independent brake function on not only the "active" locomotive, but also the tender (for steamers) or MU'ed diesels/electrics (coupled consecutively, of course).
