Well, it seems then it comes down to something in ORTS itself... just what?

Cheers, Markus

Then what about these parameters?
DieselSmokeEffectInitialSmokeRate( 1.0 )
DieselSmokeEffectMaxSmokeRate( 5.8 )

Which are not defined in the Tech Docs nor in Richter's Manual. I would guess that the first is at idle and the last at Notch 8 and the number being emissions per second.

The ENG I took those lines from is Marc Nelson's GP9_UP_208 from 3dTrains. Looking at the ENG at idle looks nothing like your video. And I am please with how it looks. But I expect that what one sees is also dependent on other parameters with in the ENG file and other factors such as FPS. I get 20-26 fps depending on the angle I am looking at the ENG.

OOPs I see Markus has already mentioned them.

Well don't think all is well Walter. Rev up that ENG and see if you like the results. I don't. Puffs come out as squares of smoke.

Agree here, that's something that I've seen. Is it by design, I mean a shape that is unique to these models (BLW I mean). I can change the volume, rate, narrow or widen the exhaust vent, but the shape stays the same. Probably worked well and looked good in MSTS but those puffing squares are physically odd looking in OR.

I have had this and if I remember right I corrected the issue by changing the default MSTS diesel smoke ace file that is in the global folder to 3DTrains light diesel smoke ace file. I think I also played with the transparency of the 3dtrains file to make it a fraction more transparent and this got rid of the blocks. DieselsWest also has a replacement smoke file but I found it a little too dark. You could lighten it a little in a paint program to your liking. This smoke blocks thing is a graphics issue and can be changed by playing with the alpha of the smoke file, there is nothing in the eng file settings that can cause the smoke to show as blocks. Hope this helps Cheers Ziggy
