That looks more like an LOD issue to me. For some reason that is exactly how they display in Shape Viewer.

I have just checked in Shape Viewer and the first LOD is 0 meters with 192 polys which is exactly what you are seeing there. At 50 meters you get the full engine. There is no freight animation. MSTS always ignored this 0 meters LOD, but OR is using it.

The only way is to use Archibald and delete the first LOD in the file, not forgetting to amend the total number of LOD. I have just done the B&O one to verify that it works. However, this is only for 50 meters, with another 4 LODs out to 350 meters. Fine for the player engine, and in close view.

I have successfully used LODs on occasions, setting their intergration manually using conv3ds.exe. My understanding of the LOD protocol is this:

for example;

LOD1, myshape250 displays a high detail shape from 0 out to 250 meters,
LOD2, myshape500 displays a lesser detailed shape from 251 out to 500 meters,
LOD3, myshape2000 displays a low detail shape from 501 out to 2000 meters.

I don't see the point of a LOD myshape0 ?!

Cheers Bazza.

Addendum: the figure is the 'maximum' viewing distance before the next LOD shape displays.

I have discovered that turning off the "Always Use Highest detail" feature restores the TA 4-6-2 model to its original appearance.

This model's LODs are screwy. The option always uses the highest detail LOD, which is the first one, with the smallest distance... which has a very low-detail model in it here.

The fix is to remove the first LOD (the one with a max-distance of 0 meters).

As I stated earlier, use Archibald to remove the errant LOD. The other LODs can also have the distance changed if required. I have edited two of these engine S files so far, one retaining the remaining LODs, and one with all but the high detail LOD removed, and the distance changed to 2000. The file sizes respectively are 195kb and 113kb compressed.
