I wonder how many can I make a train consist to run in Open Rails? I was looking at one of the train consist for CN Bala2 with Q114 as player train and the total is 60. I am thinking if I can add more up to between 70 to 75 in total or too much to simulate on this route with CN Bala2 and train consit, Q114 as player train?

The iron ore trains from the AU_WA_BHP_Pilbara route are around 230 cars long, being 2 dash 9 loco's around 114 145 ton wagons another 2 dash 9's and another 114 145 ton wagons.

OR handles this consist without problems although the brake release is very slow as OR treats the train as a single entity brake wise, ie the brakes are only released from the leading loco. Where as in the real trains the brakes are released from the centre loco's and the rear of the train also. Compressors in the centre loco's also supply the brake line.

That would be an item for the wishlist: More realistic operation of the brake internals, IE DPUs supplying air too.

Cheers, Markus

Check out the free Yardmaster or Yardmaster Lite programs, available at trainsim.com

Route-Riter has consist builder too.

I've used Conbuilder for years--it works great for building consists and has some neat features. It is payware ($30 US, I think), but is well worth it, in my opinion.

Same here John, can't say enough good things about Conbuilder. When paired with Route-Riter these two programs can help with or solve most problems encountered with routes, rolling stock and train simulation troubles.

i've tried using 450 cars (well 450 cars + 50 engines) with no problems
